Gauhati: Amid speculations that Congress High Command will soon replace Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, senior party leader Malikarjun Kharge will be meeting MLAs in Gauhati on Monday.
Gogoi, the CM of the state for 13 years, has been facing dissidence for last two years now.
Although the AICC has not confirmed any change of leadership in Assam, state Congress president Bhuwneswar Kalita has said that chances of replacing Gogoi are 50-50.
Kalita, who was accompanied by dissident camp leader and health minister Himanta Biswa Sharma , was called by the AICC to discuss the prevailing political scenario in the state.
Sharma, who is heading the anti-Gogoi camp in the state, said he has the support of 45 MLAs out of 78 MLAs in the assembly to replace Gogoi.
AICC is now analysing the LS polls rout in the state. The party managed just 3 out of 14 seats in a state where it has been in power since 2001.
